ISLE OF WIGHT MUSIC, DANCE AND DRAMA FESTIVAL
Now
in
its
89th
year,
this
festival
does
much
to
encourage
competitors
young
and
old
to
produce
their
best
efforts.
Many
young
people
take
part,
and
many
pensioners!
In
our
congregation
Derek
has
a
programme
from
the
1950s,
Anne,
Peter,
Brenda,
Emma,
John
and
I
all
took
part
many
years
ago.
So
it
was
a
great
delight
to
enter
our
choir
this
year,
and
we
all
enjoyed
the
experience.
We
entered
two
classes,
622
CHURCH
CHOIR
under
25
voices,
and
628
CHURCH
CHOIR
MUSIC
GROUP.
In
the
first
class
we
were
up
against
stiff
competition
but
we
acquitted
ourselves
well,
singing
"O
Little
One
Sweet"
and
"Born
on
a
New
Day"
both
unaccompanied
and
keeping
the
pitch,
and
came
second
to
Cantus
Vesperi
with
Holy
Trinity
Ventnor
third.
Last
year
there
was
only
one
entry
in
class
628
but
this
year
there
were
three
choirs.
We
sang
Walmisley's
"Nunc
dimittis"
very
kindly
accompanied
by
Andrew
Cooper,
followed
by
"This
joyful
Eastertide".
The
adjudicator
had
nothing
but
praise
for
us,
especially
for
our
men!
and
we
came
first.
It
was
very
interesting
to
hear
the
other
choirs
and
their
choices,
and
the
adjudicator had a tough job as we were all so different.

SPECIAL AWARD
The
choir
were
delighted
to
be
the
very
first
recipients
of
a
new
award
in
the
IoW
Music,
Dance
and
Drama
Festival.
Designed
and
given
by
Mr
Maurice
Fairall
in
memory
of
his
wife
Sally,
this
lovely
award
was
presented
to
us
in
Ryde
at
the
annual
prize
giving at Yelf’s Hotel. Seven of the choir attended, as we were so thrilled!
Coral Bratherton - Choir Director
So
we
have
a
trophy
for
one
year,
and
I
think
we'll
go
back
next
year
to
try
to
keep
it,
God
willing.
Well
done
everybody,
and
thanks for your hard work!
