Licensing Service for Revd. Jonathan Hall St Johns, Sandown - 18th August 2018
On Saturday, August 18th around two hundred people gathered at St John’s Church in Sandown to celebrate the Licensing of Revd Jonathan Hall as Priest in Charge of St John’s, Sandown and St Blasius, Shanklin by the Bishop of Portsmouth. This completes a newly formed team of Clergy in Sandown Bay. The service was a joyous mixture of formal procedure and lively singing. Jonathan was previously Rector of East Cowes and Whippingham and Area Dean for the West Wight. He then moved to Kent before the lure of the Island drew him and his wife Erica, back. Brenda Ellison, a churchwarden at St. John’s said “We have a very good team of people who have all worked hard for today. It is gratifying to welcome so many people to our church “ Revd Tony Richards, who, with the help of retired clergy, has been holding the fort during the Interregnum, said he was very much looking forward to working closely with Jonathan in the future. Bob Crawley, a churchwarden at St Blasius remarked that it had been many years since they had had a paid minister. “We are all thrilled and are looking forward to engaging in Mission with the other Bay churches under Jonathan’s leadership” he said.
