OnSaturday30thMay,agroupofvolunteersfromStBlasiusMothers’UnioninconjunctionwithGreenTownsShanklin(whichprovided theequipment)didamagnificentjobinclearingthelitteratAppleyBeachfromShanklinChinetowardsLuccombeChine. Inabouttwo hours they not only filled 15 black bags with 1,113 items but also logged all these on the Marine Conservation Society’s survey sheets. Byfarthelargestnumberofthingsfoundonthebeachwerederivedfromplasticwhichisofincreasingconcernasitcanenterthefood chain. The data gathered will help to provide information for future government policy affecting the state of the environment. Well done to all!
