RESEARCHING YOUR FAMILY HISTORY?

For further information, the IOW Record Office has an extensive collection of parish registers of baptisms, marriages and burials from 1539 onwards as well as churchwardens accounts and vestry minutes. Title deeds, account books, surveys and maps of estates are available and records of inmates of the workhouses and electoral registers can be viewed.

There are maps from 1862, County Press newspapers from 1884 (on microfilm) and census returns as well as school records and prints and photos of the Island. The staff are very helpful – just sign in and they will assist you. There is no fee to search.

The Record Office is at 26 Hillside (between Fairlee Road and The Quay in Newport) and the telephone number is 01983 823820.
